BTC Isla is a Bitcoin Community Project located in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. The smal island of Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) is located 8 miles off the coast of Cancun, MX. It is here, surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean and the warm hearts of the island people that we are building BTC Isla.
Our goal is to build a Bitcoin circular economy on the island. We are doing this by providing. education, resources, technology, and a social. gathering space for locals, expats, tourists, and anyone interested in learning about the future of money…Bitcoin.
BTC Isla is funded by Isabella Santos and Claudio De Alba, bitcoin enthusiasts, who want to contribute to our mission on the island. These generous individuals agree with our ethos and our objective to educate the island people about Bitcoin and how to incorporate it into their lives for the better.
We believe Bitcoin is a force of good in this world. As Bitcoiners, we are passionate about technology, what it means to the world, and how it can help us all achieve a better tomorrow. We love to share our knowledge and want to contribute our skills to the Isla Mujeres economy in a positive way. Furthermore, we hope to help create a more prosperous community on the island.

Getting to ISLA MUJERES is super easy!
There are daily direct flights to Cancun International Airport (CUN).
There are many private companies that offer transfers between the airport and the UltraMar ferry terminal. This is a cheaper option than taxi service.
Flying in? UltraMar provides direct ferry service between Puerto Juarez and Isla Mujeres.
Staying in Cancun and want to come visit? Xcaret provides a direct ferry service between near the hotel zone and Isla Mujeres
Once you arrive on the island, a taxi stand is to the left when exiting the ferry terminal. There is no private transportation or ride share allowed on the island

Our friends at bitcoin.rocks have some excellent resources as well for learning about and accepting Bitcoin!
At BTC Isla we use an open-source Bitcoin education program founded in El Salvador: Mi Primer Bitcoin. This program is designed to accelerate Bitcoin adoption and financial empowerment.
Mi Primer Bitcoin is built around a core concept: independent, impartial, community-led Bitcoin education will change the world. This isn’t about Bitcoin, but rather what Bitcoin will teach us:
Critical thought
Personal responsibility
And ultimately self-sovereignty
It teaches us to lower our time preference and look further into the future – and that changes everything. When we have control over our lives and future, it encourages us to build and plan.
Bitcoin classes are held at MAYAKITA Restaurant. See below class dates and meeting times.
BTC Isla does not have official merch. Instead, in the spirit of the Bitcoin ethos, we employ an “open-source merch” model. The BTC Isla logo is available for download and can be used to create custom merch. If you will be visiting the island, consider bringing some BTC Isla merch to give to the BTC Isla students!
There are bi-weekly meetups on the island! We meet at the delicious Mayakita Restaurant on the southeast side of the island at 10AM every other Wednesday! Please RSVP on our Meetup page to we know how big of a table to reserve! And yes, Mayakita accepts Bitcoin 😉
